Why call them trading cards, if no one trades them?

Among my geeky collection of action figures, gashapons, comic books, and anime cels, are my non-sports trading cards. Recently I purchased a box of Marvel Masterpieces Series 2 trading cards and finally realized something.

The word ‘trade’ is in Trading Cards for a reason.

I was able to complete the set, get quite a few chases but now what do I do with the duplicates? Not only those but the hundreds of duplicate trading cards I have in storage? I even collect the Dragonball Z trading card game but I don’t play.

I know, I’m supposed to trade the duplicates for cards I need right? Well have you tried to trade non-sports trading cards with anyone recently? Why is it so hard to find people willing to trade? I used to trade all the time with others online and I’m even a member of G.A.B. (Good Traders Against Bad Traders). Gone are those days and I’m drowning in duplicates of Dragonball Z, Marvel Universe, X-Men, and other trading card series.

I’m not going to stop collecting them because I’m a sucker for an unopened pack of cards. However, I miss the days of trading my duplicates in order to get singles I need to complete one of many many sets. I hate leaving things unfinished and yes, I’ve got many unfinished sets.

So if you, or anyone you know, collects non-sports trading cards and have sets that need completing then PLEASE give me a shout. I have way too many series to list but if you’re looking for it, then I’m sure I’ve got it.

Didn’t mean to post that twice. The 1st one wasn’t showing up. Please delete one of those so I don’t look like such a schmuck.

Few things more exciting than tearing open a new pack to see if you found that one card that was keeping you from having the full set. Better yet, you find one of those mythical hologram cards…sadly, I’ve never been able to actually do that.

I’m not much into sports cards, but super hero cards are “da bomb”. Mind sending me some of those duplicates? You are beautiful, btw. You’d make a good Psylocke.

Got something to say? Go for it!
