My Failed Attempt at Being Wolverine

At the age of 12 I had a dream of being Wolverine. I didn’t want his claws, muscles, or healing factor, but his hairstyle. In the summer of 1991, we headed to Dallas, from the family ranch, where I would be starting 7th grade that fall. On our drive we made a stop in San Antonio to visit family. Along the way I picked up Spider-Man issue #12 because Wolverine was making a guest appearance.

Creating Comic Book Characters is easy according to Wizard Magazine!

I was reading a old issue of Wizard Guide from March 1994 and came across an article titled “Just Add Water: Ten easy steps for creating gritty, cutting-edge comic book characters”. If only creating comic book characters were this easy…well, maybe it was in the 90’s. Anyways, what you are about to read is exactly as it was printed in the article. Comic Book Character Knockoffs = Generic Brand

Think of your favorite character. Now, imagine someone creating comic book character knockoffs of him,her, or it. It’s not easy creating a new comic book character with never-seen-before superpowers and costumes. (and I definitely know how hard it is after creating The Deciders).

What you’re about to read is my Top 10 List of Comic Book Character Knockoffs. In some cases it’s the costume and in others it ‘s everything. I guess when these characters were being created, “originality” wasn’t top priority. (Please remember that the opinions expressed here are my own and I don’t expect everyone to agree…just 99% of you)

Why call them trading cards, if no one trades them?

Among my geeky collection of action figures, gashapons, comic books, and anime cels, are my non-sports trading cards. Recently I purchased a box of Marvel Masterpieces Series 2 trading cards and finally realized something.

The word ‘trade’ is in Trading Cards for a reason.
